happy hump day!

since starting my new job, wednesdays are definitely my new favorite day of the week. this is mainly because our hilariously crazy receptionist, Von, literally answers every single phone call by yelling in her raspy, been smoking since she's 14 voice by saying 'happy hump day!' my office (by the way, i have an office) is right by the front desk, so i hear every "HAPPY HUMP DAY!" and it makes me laugh every time. i wish you could meet her.

she is also super blunt. for example, a lady in our office quit on friday and so we've been getting all these calls for her. so Von will answer the phone and say: "sorry, she quit. and i'm about to walk out the door right behind her. how 'bout that?"

but i honestly respect her a lot because she has really tough skin, which i have suddenly become very aware of the fact that i don't.

it's going well, though. i am super excited about the fact that i get to speak in spanish almost all day long and finding someone a job who really needs one just makes you feel good.

one thing that i was really looking for in this first job was that i would start to learn up close and personal what it's like for latinos in the US. and i definitely think this is going to be good for that. i can just see a lot of the prejudices that they are up against every single day.

well, i'm off...trying to get in a rhythm again along with learning all kinds of new stuff has been making me really tired. i feel old. but content.
